He was the son of Shams ud din Iltutmish (1211–1236) and was raised to become Iltutmish's heir.As the new coronated ruler he had the following qualities ; physical aristocracy, courteous behaviour and resolved consciousness.He was a self endowed person and spent his major amount of time resolving in music. Taking advantage of his vulnerability as a king his mother Shah Turkan embraced the entire power of the throne to herself.
